Stories from the Field identity

Stories from the Field is the United Nations Documentary Film Festival, Design 21 ran a competition in conjunction with the festival organizers to find a new logo for the festival. From a field of over 1400 entrants our proposal was selected by three of the judges — making it the top selection.
For this logo proposal we decided that instead of symbolizing the diversity of the films we chose to exemplify them. The logos are very dependent on the content of the films at the festival (photography/film stills) and is made to work in conjunction with the film stills on the poster and promotional material. The icon is a simple framing device (reminiscent of a viewfinder), it references the frame of view that these documentaries provide, a glimpse into these contemporary issues that exist amongst a wider context. These issues extend beyond the frame and as a result so does the wordmark.
